Chicago, IL: Manifold presents Tiled & Looped solo exhibition by Surabhi Ghosh
Surabhi Ghosh creates complex compositions through the accumulation of simple decorative motifs, revealing intersections among abstraction, minimalism, and ornamentation. In Tiled & Looped, at the Manifold gallery, Ghosh will show work from two ongoing series. In these series, she uses hand-cutting techniques to negate the function of a utilitarian material (upholstery vinyl), while expanding her speculative understanding of the relationships between pattern, repetition, and decoration.

Surabhi Ghosh currently lives in Montreal where she teaches at Concordia University in the Fibres & Material Practices program. After receiving her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Ghosh became an active part of the Chicago community, teaching at the School of the Art Institute for six years while showing her work throughout the area. She also cofounded “Bailliwik”, a collaborative publication project that ran from 2004 to 2013. Recent exhibitions include “Tile Up” at Culture Room (Brooklyn, NY) and “Fields” at Ditch Projects (Springfield, OR).
